2.   Allegheny Fiddle II :  (Must have completed level 1.)
Players are able to understand and explore the similarities, subtleties and differences between the Allegheny style and the other styles.  The focus is on learning new tunes and bringing forth the "voice" and unique accent of the style through the tunes in depth.

3.  Banjo I :
It's as easy as ABC...
A.  Must have a banjo with 5 strings and a strong willingness to learn rhythm.
B.  Must have a strong willingness to learn rhythm.
C. Did we mention rhythm?

4. Clawhammer Banjo II:
For the clawhammer player who "has been around the block."  Shawns 23 years of banjo picking have given him a unique repertoire of tunes from the Western Maryland, Southwestern Pennsylvania and the Northern/Panhandle West Virginia region.  Shawn ties the lore, philosophy and rugged individualist frontier spirit into making you better than you thought you could be.  As long as the rhythm is in check,  new tunes are the focus and Shawn guarantees that you will hear/learn music that you've never heard before.

Shows
1. The performance fee can vary depending on the venue.

2. It is important to know that this is NOT bluegrass music. Shawn describes his music as "Anglo-Celtic." Think Irish, Scottish, jigs, reels, ballads...

3. Shawn is an experienced performer and has played coast to coast in various settings. He goes out of his way to promote his own shows (flyers, press, etc...) to help make them a success.

Workshops:

Shawn is a gifted teacher and his knowledge of the culture, lore and  history of this "celtic" based music gives insight into what it is all about... The workshops are desiginated I and II.  Sometimes a person may not fit in either category and be more "Intermediate."  Shawn will determine the flow of the workshop based on the players and where they are at individually... not based on Level I or II...

Shawn currently offers...

1. Allegheny Fiddle I :  (Most will start here. If you are not sure, email/ask Shawn.)
Not a "beginning fiddle"  workshop... players must have basic fiddle skills, able to play "whole" "tunes."  The workshop begins by teaching the history, regional culture, theory, technique, bowing, and beginning tunes from the SW Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and N. West Virginia oral tradition. A strong emphasis is placed on tunes in 6/8 from the Irish, Scottish and English traditions that took hold in the region and lasted until the 1960's.
Sound samples are from recent live performances... (allow mp3s to load.)
